My analog LP Player (close-up pictured above right) includes the first prototype Midnight Express 2 SAturn table with a Ruby Rod tonearm (also the first prototype), a Rega 300 tonearm, and an SME 309 tonearm. SAturn table accessories include AC Synchronous Motor Pod (MPAC), Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), and Super Silver Switch Box (SSSB) - just turn the SSSB's rotary switch to change tonearm [low] outputs to my phono stage pre-amp (note the three tonearms tracking the same cut on the same record - now that's the epitomy of a comparison!). Although you can use the SSSB to switch at line-level, using the SSSB to switch low-level [cartridge] outputs before the phono pre-amp means you only need one phono stage, providing all your cartridges have similar load impedances.
My audio system (pictured left above) is pure Class A, from the Krell amp and pre-amp to the Infinity Prelude speakers. My other Class A source component is a Sony XA777ES SACD player (note the Tri-Orbs under the player). To be perfectly honest, my old LP record collection sounds better than the best SACDs, and I don't mean all those old low-resolution SACD re-issues either. Of course, it has a lot to do with the "dynamic blackness" created by the Midnight Express - a unique design, and that Vinyl Polymer works miracles too! If you don't believe me, stop by sometime (bring your own music, if you want) and take a listen for yourself (by appointment only).
Yes, I'm a purist! I believe in stereo for my music and surround for my movies. Note the Definitive Tech PM200 (part of my 7.1 surround system, not pictured) on top of the Infinity subwoofer box above. I do cheat a little [mainly for physical space considerations) and use the two Infinity subs for my LFE output from my Denon 7-channel receiver (not shown). The dual amplified subs (at 850 watts continuous each) do a great job of cancelling standing waves for movies and music. Vinyl rules my music! And I'm a video/sci-fi fan too, so hi-definition/surround also rules my movies! Gort, Klaatu barada nikto! - PVS
